Universitas Gadjah Mada

Panorama!

Yogjakarta is the capital of the Yogyakarta Special region in Java a few hours’ drive from the capital in Indonesia Jakarta. It is a great city that doesn’t get the tourism attention it deserves since it has a lot to offer in terms of sights, the friendly people that live there and the culture that inhabits them. A city where the majority of the 600,000 people are Muslim within a country with a limited healthcare system. A great challenge for any medical student. I set out on this adventure on my own as the single representative of Sydney University. However, on the first day I was introduced to 3 very nice students from Holland, Germany and Austria respectively. This made the transition to a foreign country much easier since I quickly realized that most people here do not know how to speak English. The University of Gadjah Mada often receives student from Europe so it is likely that during your placement you meet others.
