The Historical Department Store is one of the most outstanding buildings in Freiburg . It is located on the south side of the cathedral square, which with its red facade dominates.The first municipal department store as construction handling of goods and the customs clearance in Freiburg was built in the 14th century in the Schusterstraße, the first mention dates back to 1378. From 1520 the building was in its present form with out the expansion of the back of the old department store on Münsterplatz look at the Freiburg Cathedral built. The completion of the construction dates back to 1532. The architect of the building is not properly assigned, it is believed that it is Lienhardt Müller from Ettlingen has acted.
